Heesen Yachts of Holland is a large and sophisticated builder and designer of modern luxury superyachts. Meticulous attention to detail and expertise, at every level of the build, results in better performance and superior luxury yachts…we were impressed with their latest launch ‘Galatica Star’ which is the talk of the industry at the moment.
Founded in 1978, Heesen is a leading yachting company, which produces large private motor yachts with cutting edge technology, built with the latest techniques and has the traditional quality associated with continental Dutch craftsmanship.
In recent years, while the world’s top shipyards have launched larger-than-ever megayachts with eyecatching designs and over-the-top amenities, Heesen has done that and more. The yard was the first Dutch megayacht builder to employ aluminum for its hulls. Its 213-foot yacht Galactica Star became the world’s first all-aluminum vessel with a fast-displacement hull.
This hull design, conceived by the experts at Van Ossanen Naval Architects, combines a rounded bilge, a small immersed transom, and a bulbous bow to reduce water resistance and improve fuel efficiency by as much as 30 percent, even at the yacht’s top speed of 28 knots.
Project Galatea has an open flybridge layout with 85 square metres of deck space that includes a helm station and a shaded dining area that is protected even underway by glass side panels. The 10 metre long saloon includes a large square lounge and a dining area adjacent to full-height glazed doors. With the doors open, guests can dine inside while enjoying fresh air and panoramic views.
This is ideal for bigger families as ten guests can sleep in five cabins plus there is a full-beam main deck master, two full-beam VIP doubles and two twin cabins on the lower deck, all of which have marble ensuite bathrooms.
Heesen is also working with Van Oossanen on a 138- foot vessel that will be the world’s first yacht equipped with the architecture firm’s Hull Vane concept, which places “wings” made of high-tensile steel on the underside of the hull. As the yacht cruises through the water, the wings generate enough natural forward thrust to reduce fuel consumption by an additional 25 percent.
For discerning guests like myself who look for the luxury elements first, Galactica Star, for example has a two-level belowdecks area at the stern, where a 237-square-foot swim platform folds down to reveal a beach club with a sauna, a hammam, and a full bar. Just overhead, on the main deck, a large glass-bottomed swimming pool swatches the beach club in shimmering natural light.
One can see that Heesen has accrued unparalleled experience as the world’s leading builder of aluminium yachts. In 1992 they took this expertise into the field of traditional steel displacement yachts, expanding the portfolio of custombuilt possibilities open to our clients.
In the past 30 years, Heesen have designed, built and delivered well over 150 yachts and many of them are award-winning units. No two of them alike and all of them were delivered on time. Meticulous attention to detail and expertise at every level of build result in better performance and greater luxury….that is Heesen for you.
